Every Ember & Oak candle is blended, poured, cured and finished by hand in our Distillery District studio. No factories, no shortcuts — just slow, deliberate craft and a scent that feels like coming home.
In 2016, Hannah and Theo were pouring their first candles at a wax-spattered kitchen table in Leslieville — one melting pot, a stack of borrowed thermometers, and a stubborn idea that a candle could smell like a real place and a real season, not a perfume counter.
Friends started asking for them. Then friends of friends. A market stall turned into a waitlist, and the waitlist turned into a lease. Today the two of them hand-pour everything from a small studio in Toronto’s Distillery District, where the floors still catch the light the way that first kitchen did.
What hasn’t changed is what goes in: a clean blend of soy & coconut wax, pure cotton wicks, and phthalate-free fragrance — poured in batches small enough that we still smell every single one before it leaves the room.
Good candles can’t be rushed. Here’s exactly how a season’s scent goes from a pot of wax to the shelf.
Soy & coconut wax is melted and married with phthalate-free fragrance, weighed by hand to the gram.
Each vessel is centred, wicked and poured by hand — never more than a few dozen at a time.
We rest every batch for 14 days so the scent settles deep — the difference between a candle and a great one.
Wicks are trimmed, vessels wiped clean, and each label is signed and dated before it ships.
We pour a few dozen at a time so quality never gets traded for volume.
Soy & coconut wax, cotton wicks, phthalate-free fragrance. Nothing you can’t pronounce.
Bring your vessel back and we’ll refill it. Beautiful objects shouldn’t be disposable.
Designed, blended and poured here — a small studio in the Distillery District.
Our shop sits inside the studio, so the candle you take home was poured a few steps from where you’re standing. Come smell the new season, watch a pour in progress, and let us help you find your scent.
We never set out to build a brand. We set out to make the thing we wished we could buy — honest, made by hand, and lit in our own home first.
Ten scents, hand-poured this season — with free local pickup at the studio.
